Scholarships in China
In order to promote the mutual understanding, cooperation and exchanges in various fields between China and other countries, the Chinese government has set up a series of scholarship programs to sponsor international students, teachers and scholars to study and conduct research in Chinese universities. China Scholarship Council （hereinafter referred to as CSC）, entrusted by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China （hereinafter referred to as MOE）, is responsible for the enrollment and the administration of Chinese Government Scholarship programs. Now, 279 designated Chinese universities offer a wide variety of academic programs in Science, Engineering, Agriculture, Medicine and many others
MOFCOM Scholarship is set up by Ministry of Commerce of People’s Republic of China to further strengthen the communication and cooperation between China and other countries as well as to develop talents for developing countries. Starting from 2015, MOFCOM Scholarship mainly sponsors the young and the middle-aged talents from recipient countries to pursue their postgraduate degree education in China and entrusts China Scholarship Council to administer the Scholarship.Statistics show that there were about 49,000 foreign students studying in China as recipients of the Chinese Government Scholarships in 2016, with those from “Belt and Road” countries accounting for more than 60%.
a） All the documents to be submitted should be in Chinese or English. Otherwise, a notarized copy in Chinese or English is required.
Chinese University Program is a full scholarship for designated Chinese universities and certain provincial education offices in specific provinces or autonomous regions to recruit outstanding international students for graduate studies in China. It only supports graduate students.
1. Supporting Category. This scholarship only supports graduate students.
2. Duration. This scholarship only supports master’s students for no more than 3 academic years or doctoral students for no more than 4 academic years. The scholarship covers both major study and Chinese language/preparatory study, as specified in the Admission Letter.
China set up a special government scholarship in 2017 to annually sponsor no less than 3,000 foreign students from countries along the routes of the “Belt and Road” initiative to study in China, CCTV reported.
The “Belt and Road” scholarship program is reportedly an extra supplement to the existing Chinese Government Scholarships.
According to officials from China’s Ministry of Education, the new government scholarship awarded in the following three levels:
– First, ministry- and commission-level cooperation, to reserve talents in important fields, such as energy, transportation, communication, finance and maritime research
Provincial Government Scholarships are offered from relevant Provinces Government to selected students,who couldn’t achieve CSC.
The government of Fujian Province has established the fujian Government Scholarship for International Students (hereinafter referred to as FGS) in accordance with the Guidance for the Medium and Long-Term Educational Reform and Development in Fujian Province (2010-2020),in effort to further promote the development and make progress on scale, level and service ability of the international students’ education of Fujian Province, and attract more academically excellent international students to study in Fujian.
Jiangsu Provincial Government has set up the “Jasmine Jiangsu Government Scholarship” for international students in order to promote the development of higher education of International students in Jiangsu, to further improve the profile of Jiangsu Education to the world, to highlight the brand of “Study in Jiangsu” and to make Jiangsu a preferred province for international students to study in.
This scholarship will be provided to those excellent overseas students or scholars to undertake full time study in universities and colleges of Jiangsu. It will also include those non-degree program students and exchange students in accordance with educational exchange agreements and MOUs between the Jiangsu Provincial Government and the governments of other states, institutions, universities and international organizations.
